- Develop and implement the commercial strategy in alignment with project objectives and contractual obligations.
- Provide commercial insight and support to senior management for decision-making.
- Ensure alignment between project execution and commercial targets throughout the project lifecycle.
- Oversee project budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting to ensure commercial viability.
- Monitor costs and expenditures against budgets, and recommend corrective actions for cost overruns.
- Evaluate change orders, variations, and additional works, ensuring accurate valuation and timely approval.
- Manage all contractual matters, including compliance with FIDIC or other standard forms of contract.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks across project phases.
- Ensure contracts are properly executed, administered, and closed out in accordance with client requirements.
- Lead the preparation and submission of claims for time and cost, and defend against unjustified claims from subcontractors.
- Collaborate with legal teams to resolve disputes efficiently and protect project interests.
- Maintain a comprehensive record of contractual correspondence and claim substantiation.
- Oversee procurement strategies for materials, services, and subcontractors.
- Review and negotiate subcontract agreements to ensure favorable commercial terms.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and manage variations and payment applications.
- Prepare commercial reports, cash flow forecasts, cost-value reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Present commercial updates and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Maintain a comprehensive audit trail of commercial activities and decisions.
- Lead a team of quantity surveyors, cost engineers, and contract administrators.
- Provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback to build a high-performing commercial team.
- Promote a collaborative and accountable work culture focused on results and transparency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in commercial and contract management roles.
- Proven experience on large-scale infrastructure or aviation/airport projects.
- Expertise in managing FIDIC contracts and handling high-value claims and variations.
- Deep understanding of commercial principles, budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls.
- Strong knowledge of construction law, procurement strategies, and contract negotiation.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in cost control software, ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP), and Microsoft Excel.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Professional certifications such as MRICS, MCIOB, PMP, or Chartered Quantity Surveyor.
- Experience working with international contractors or in joint venture projects.
- Familiarity with local regulatory and commercial compliance in airport construction.
- Experience in handling dispute adjudication boards (DAB), arbitration, or litigation.
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of life-cycle costing.
- Knowledge of lean construction principles or value engineering.
