The HDD Machine Operator is responsible for operating Horizontal Directional Drilling equipment to install underground utilities (such as pipelines, conduits, or cables) with minimal surface disruption. The role requires experience with HDD rigs, understanding underground utility layouts, and ensuring job safety and efficiency.Key Responsibilities:
Operate HDD Equipment:Set up, operate, and monitor HDD machines and associated equipment (rigs, locators, mud systems).Drill pilot holes, back ream, and pull back product lines accurately according to plans.Project Preparation:Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, utility maps, and locate reports.Prepare the job site and align bore path according to site conditions and project requirements.Safety and Compliance:Follow all safety regulations and ensure the safety of crew members and nearby personnel.Comply with environmental regulations, local laws, and company policies.Equipment Maintenance:Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on equipment.Report equipment malfunctions or repairs to the supervisor.Communication & Coordination:Work closely with the drill locator, project managers, and ground crew.Communicate with supervisors to resolve drilling issues or changes in drilling conditions.Qualifications and Skills:
Experience:5+ years of proven experience operating HDD rigs (e.g., Vermeer, Ditch Witch).Experience in utility construction or trenchless technology is preferred.Technical Skills:Ability to operate and troubleshoot HDD equipment.Proficient in reading utility drawings and locating underground lines.Certifications (Preferred):HDD Operator Training CertificationValid driving license (CDL is a plus)Soft Skills:Attention to detailProblem-solving under field conditionsTeamwork and good communication skillsWork Conditions:
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.May involve travel to different job sites.
