Job Purpose
Within the assigned plant, ensures the quality implementation of all MWSPC Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures. Ensure staff and operation personnel are fully trained and competent in all areas in workplace safety, health hazards, use of protective equipment, and proper use of plant equipment to prevent employee injuries and unsafe procedures. Develop and provide technical and administrative direction on EHSS issues, which will directly impact MWSPC objectives, operations, and the achievement of its mission and values. Interfaces with the MWSPC's EHSS Department on workforce safety issues. Coordinates training requirements with First Line Supervisors.
Key Accountabilities
- Participate in the development of strategies, policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
- Identify potential safety & health hazards, threats and discrepancies with safety policy, regulatory agency standards, and develop solutions to eliminate/reduce employee injury caused by unsafe procedures, poor work area design or faulty equipment
- Plan and conduct evaluations of potentially hazardous conditions, including exposure monitoring, as necessary.
- Prepare reports for submission to management, primary investigators and/or managers, which identify the potential hazards and/or program discrepancies, and provide recommendations for control and compliance.
- Advise management and employees on safe practices and potential hazards.
- Develop, implement, and administer MWSPC's HSE programs. Processes may include rewriting a safety manual, reordering procedures, re-training employees or replacing equipment.
- Support the Business Development team in preparing proposals, reviewing specifications, and responding to inquiries as they relate to EHSS queries
- Conduct follow-up inspections, tests and audits to make sure safety has been increased.
- Involvement with contract preparation and contractor selection process to ensure a safe work process during construction operations
- Participate in or lead accident/incident investigations.
- Participate in meetings, workshops and conferences to keep abreast of emerging safety and health issues and conduct and coordinate professional training sessions for staff.
- Administer and interpret programs and policies outlined in the Health and Safety Program
- BS degree
- 4-10 years of Plant Operations and Supervisory experience in the fertilizer or chemical industry, preference for experience in the same plant
- Strong negotiating ability and effective communication skills.
- Excellent relationship building skills (internal and external)
- Strong work ethic and be able to adhere to company, policies, and standard business etiquette.
- Establishment of strong network of suppliers and vendors
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills in English required,
- Self-starter with minimal supervision for routine activities.
